Learn how this highly-purified form of glutathione helps protect your body against oxidative stress to promote optimal health and recovery as you age.
- Heather Eastman, NSCA-CPT, CF L1
Setria Glutathione is a manufactured and purified form of Glutathione, a natural compound made from the amino acids glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid. It is found in nearly every cell of the human body and is critical for protecting cells against oxidative stress and for tissue building and repair.
Glutathione is sometimes referred to as the ”master antioxidant,” supporting a healthy immune system, improving skin health and the signs of aging, and contributing to the body’s antioxidant levels.
While glutathione assists with many healthy cellular functions required for optimal physical and mental health, Setria Glutathione specifically has been shown to reactivate oxygenized Vitamin C and support detoxification processes throughout the body, especially in the liver.
If you workout, Setria Glutathione may even help reduce fatigue and promote faster recovery by maintaining nitric oxide (NO) levels. NO helps blood vessels relax, which promotes better blood flow to the muscles and tissues of the body.
Setria Glutathione contributes to several important functions in the body, including:
High glutathione levels have also been associated with longevity and multiple markers of good health, such as a low body mass index, low blood pressure, optimal cholesterol levels, and a healthier heart.
We certainly think so, which is why we included Setria Glutathione in our Biostack product formulations. Setria Glutathione uses a fermentation process to produce a pure form of glutathione considered to be superior to other forms. According to Kyowa Quality, Setria Glutathione has a purity value of 99.0% to 101.0%, contains no additives or artificial preservatives, and does not come from animal sources, making it a vegetarian form of this highly-effective antioxidant.
Glutathione levels naturally decline as we age. Lack of sleep and poor lifestyle choices, such as alcohol consumption, poor diet, prolonged stress, and exposure to toxins and chemicals, can also reduce glutathione levels in the body.
Low antioxidant levels and the subsequent high levels of oxidative stress are associated with a variety of diseases, including diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancer. It’s possible that supplementation with antioxidants such as Setria Glutathione can stave off oxidative stress and therefore reduce the likelihood of developing these and other common age-related diseases.
Studies show daily supplementation can increase glutathione levels in cells and tissues and promote healthy aging by protecting the cells of the body from damage caused by poor lifestyle choices, natural oxidative aging, and stress.
Many people worry that medications and supplements might have an effect on liver health. In the case of glutathione, the opposite is true.
Glutathione has long been used to reverse cell damage in the liver. Deficient antioxidant levels can lead to fatty liver in individuals who consume alcohol and those who don’t, therefore supplementation with an effective antioxidant such as glutathione can have positive effects on liver health, especially when combined with healthier lifestyle choices.
The body can naturally produce glutathione in the liver, which is not the case for most antioxidants.Glutathione is also found in several common foods, such as raw meat, unpasteurized dairy products, and freshly picked fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, cooking and pasteurization significantly diminishes glutathione levels in these foods, which is why daily supplementation is recommended in addition to a healthy diet.
Since glutathione contains sulfur, foods high in sulfur, such as cruciferous vegetables and garlic and onions, may help with natural glutathione production in the body. Here’s a list of common foods that may help naturally boost glutathione production in the body:
Since glutathione levels are negatively affected by stress and lack of sleep, consistent and adequate rest and relaxation can also naturally boost this antioxidant. A healthy diet and the avoidance of processed and refined foods containing detrimental chemicals has also been associated with better glutathione production.
Glutathione levels are lowest first thing in the morning and can be replenished, either through diet or supplementation. A good quality Setria Glutathione supplement like Cell Shield helps replenish your body’s glutathione levels. Supplementation with glutathione has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity in older individuals, improves circulation and skin conditions such as psoriasis, and may even help fight chronic inflammation and autoimmune disease.
The recommended dosage for glutathione is 500mg per day. BioStack Labs included 500 mg of Setria Glutathione in each serving of Cell Shield, along with liposomal Vitamin C, as part of its biohacking supplementation stack.
Cell Shield is a Setria Glutathione supplement, which is part of a larger biohacking protocol which we discuss in the post, The Official BioStack Labs Biohacking Supplements Protocol.
Daily supplementation with Setria Glutathione, as well as healthy lifestyle choices and biohacking methods, can optimize your health, your performance, and your recovery for better aging and longevity.
